About Us
The UK kennel club granted the affix ‘Squareclose’ to Ian Christie on the 1st May 1989, since that time we have made it our objective to produce Labrador, Golden Retriever, Springer and Cocker puppies that are able to perform in the hunting field or at field trial competitions throughout Northern Europe and North America.
We breed one or two litters a year from bitches that we regard as having the qualities we look for in a working gundog, namely trainability, a desire to hunt and a natural retrieving ability.
Our Labradors / Golden retrievers are hip and eye tested before we breed from them, all stud dogs are similarly tested before we would use them to our breeding stock.
During 2003 I was appointed to the UK kennel club “A” panel of Spaniel field trial judges, I also held the post of Spaniel field trial secretary of the Strathmore Working Gundog Club for four years before stepping down due to work commitments.
Judging appointments have taken me around Scotland, as well as England, Northern Ireland and Sweden.
At the present time I am on the field trial committees of the Tay Valley Gundog Club, Strathmore Working Gundog Club and The Scottish Gundog Association.
Due to work and family commitments I no longer compete on a regular basis at field trials, although I attend as many trials as time permits either as a spectator or a participating gun.
